Women and Child Development

Directorate of Women and Child Development was formed in Madhya Pradesh on August 15, 1986 and all schemes related to women and children were transferred from the Tribal Welfare Department and Panchayat and Social Welfare Department to this Directorate. Initially, this Directorate remained under the administrative control of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department and then a separate Women and Child Development Department was formed in the year 1988. Many schemes of the department have expanded, while new schemes like Ladli Laxmi Yojana, Atal Bal Mission, Integrated Child Protection Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana are also being operated. Being dynamic, the department has accepted every challenge for development. This has led to continuous improvement in the condition of women in the society, awareness of their rights and interests in women, malnutrition of children has come down.

In addition to women’s health, the department is also working for the care and protection of women. All the services such as medical, police, legal aid, shelter etc. are provided to the woman suffering from any kind of violence at the one-stop center. The department is also working for the care and protection of children. Under Integrated Child Protection Scheme, children below 18 years of age are provided care and protection.
