The aim of the Animal Husbandry Department is to increase the livestock in the district and increase the necessary production of milk as well as treat the diseased animals. The State Govt. Scheme of small / marginal and landless labourers to improve the economic condition of animal husbandry is being used for their advantage. In order to increase milk production, the department has 38 veterinary hospitals, 34 veterinary dispensaries, 1 artificial insemination centers, 5 sub-center , 1 animal research laboratory, 3 controlled animal breeding units, 1 mobile virus, 1 mobile hospital and 1 polyclinic. Advanced animal breeding is done through artificial insemination. 24 Goshalas are being run by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and 9 Goshalas are being run by the Chief Minister Gau-seva Yojana in the district for rearing the destitute cows.
