Farmers Welfare and Agricultural Development

             Khargone District has many agricultural based economy. The district is called “Nimad” area surrounded by the Satpura and Maikal mountain ranges. The district comes under the “Nimar Valley” agro-climatic zone. Cotton is sown in largest area about 2,15,000 hectares in Khargone district in Madhya Pradesh. The Cotton is popularly known as white gold. Due to the favorable climate in the district, for various crops like – food grains (wheat, maize, sorghum, millet, etc.), pulses (arhar, moong, urad etc.), Oilseeds (groundnut, soybean, castor, mustard)    & cash crop- cotton & sugarcane crop cultivating. In the past years, the area of ​​Rabi and Zayed (summer) crops are increasing due to continuous increase in irrigation sources (canals, ponds etc) in the district. In the district farmer have adopting advanced techniques in agriculture such as “ridge and furrow method“, in soybean & gram, and ”SWI” in wheat ”Dharwad method” in arhar, inter cropping, ”Pheromone trap”, ”Light trap”, ”Vermi compost”, ”Nadep compost” and using advanced agricultural machinery etc. farmers are successfully cultivating and achieving good crop production. In addition, farmers in un-irrigated area are getting more crop production by conserving water using drip, sprinkler etc. departmental field staff are given timely technical advice of crop production to the farmers. They are also getting benefit through various departmental schemes, training and tour/visit etc.
